What are First Responders

WHO ARE WE?

Ø     A Group of local volunteers

Ø     Trained by East of England Ambulance Service   and respond as a Structured part of the Ambulance Service Emergency Provision

Ø     Volunteers available 24 hours a day,

Seven days a week, 365 days a year

Ø     From OUR Community to help OUR Community

Ø     Offering a skilled and appropriate first response within minutes

in life threatening incidents

WHAT WE DO

Ø     Following a 999 call we are despatched to the Patient by the Ambulance Service to provide basic life support in the vital minutes before the ambulance can arrive

Ø     Our help is additional to and does not replace the despatch of an ambulance

Ø     In many life threatening incidents (cardiac arrest, heart failure, choking, drowning…) the first few minutes are critical

We are not despatched to incidents for which we are not trained

First Responder groups are completely self funded and rely of kind donations and sponsors to provide us with the vital

training, equipment, uniforms and general running costs to stay operational

If YOU would like to contribute a donation or are interesting in sponsoring us , please use the "contact us" page.

If you are interesting in volunteering

BE A VITAL LINK IN THE CHAIN OF SURVIVAL

Life-threatening conditions are ‘time critical’ and the importance of early intervention is absolutely paramount if we are to improve the chances of survival for people who are in cardiac arrest.

More than 300,000 people have heart attacks and over 110,000 die of heart problems in England every year – 50,000 of these people are under the age of 75. In Essex chest pain and other heart-related conditions account for 10% of all 999 calls.

Research shows that early defibrillation (electric shock therapy to re-start a failing heart) is the most important factor affecting the survival of patients in cardiac arrest. The first few minutes of collapse are vital and early CPR

(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and defibrillation can greatly improve a patient’s chance of survival.

With each precious minute that passes survival rates decline by 10%.
